SO, for my first blog post I thought I would address a question that clients often ask me: What's your personal style? The truth is, that is the wrong question to be asking. The question is, what is your style?

To the untrained eye, these two rooms may appear dramatically different, in truth they are situated in very diferent locations. The one on the left, is a Villa in Italy, whereas the other is a chic Paris apartment. Honestly, I chose these two bedrooms, not because of how they differ, but because of how they are alike. Both are instinctively aware of its suroundings, and replicate the outdoor mood indoors. The Italian villa with it's grandious proportions, seeks intimacy within its walls by arching the doorways, and warming the lofty ceiling with wooden beams. The Paris apartment seeks light and space, with it's floor to ceiling windows and lack of draperies.

While the first bedroom seeems to be packed full of luxurious and inviting furnishings; the apartment bedroom is equally sumptuous with its perfectly designed materials. The elegance of the rich suede and covered headboard are intrinsycly stylish. The lines are pure, but the materials bring the personality to the room.

The neutral color palette, of greys, beiges, and whites, is shared by both bedrooms, These colors set a claming atmosphere that sets a stage to warm or cool the space. The finishes in each differ dramatically; as the Italian villa refers to old, rich patinas; whereas the Apartment bedroom opts for more chic, glossy finishes. Once again, all these choices are aligned with the tastes of the client.

All in all, these two bedrooms would be designed with very different clients in mind, for very different types of homes. When developing a design concept with my client, the quality and choices are made with the utmost bearing in mind as to the personality of the client. What at the end of the day do they find the most inviting bedroom to be in; this is their style and what I, as a designer endeavour to achieve!
